Luton tidy tips
Both Eaton Green Road and Progress Way tidy tips are open.
Both sites have now returned to normal working hours, opening at 8am on Saturday and Sunday and also remaining open till 7pm on Monday. Progress Way HWRC will be closed on a Wednesday whilst Eaton Green HWRC will be closed on Thursday.
The tidy tip permit scheme, has been suspended with residents unable to order these. This will remain under review and changes made when it is safely able to do so.
There is clear and strict guidance on using tidy tips safely, including FAQs.
Please note: whilst opening hours are as stated above, the queue for tidy tips may close at 2.30pm. This is because the average waiting time is approximately two to three hours, so closing the queue at 2.30pm will allow everyone to be able to dispose of their waste before the tip closes at 5pm.
Neighbourhood recycling centres
If you have smaller recycling items, or do not receive glass box collections, you can visit one of our neighbourhood recycling centres.
There are a number of small, locally placed recycling banks across the town. This is to dispose of small quantities of recyclables such as:
- glass bottles and jars
- tins and cans
- plastic bottles
- in some cases, clothing
Please make sure you place these items in the correct bins and not beside them, as items on the street count as fly-tipping and will not be collected.
Changes to bin collections
We’re working hard to keep all bin collections going, but we're experiencing disruption to services due to the impact on our staffing levels. We also need to ensure the safety of you and our staff.
As a result we will be prioritising the collection of black waste bins and green recycling bins. We are also collecting brown garden waste.
Glass collections will restart from 7 July and these will take place every four weeks.
Food caddies collections still remain suspended.
In order to prevent transmission of the virus, personal waste (such as used tissues) and disposable cleaning cloths can be stored securely within disposable rubbish bags. These bags should be placed into another bag, tied securely and kept separate from other waste. This should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your usual external household waste bin.
Other household waste can be disposed of as normal.
We're pleased to inform you we will remove all general side waste, but we urge all residents to try and keep side waste to a minimum of one black bag.
Please therefore use all opportunity to recycle items that are recyclable materials and we will continue to deliver further clear recycling sacks in order for you to have maximum capacity.
We would also ask that residents do not put heavy items eg DIY waste in the waste bin so that our contractor can continue to send as much of the black bin waste as possible to Energy From Waste plants rather than landfill.
Disposing of waste
- Dispose of any waste responsibly.
- Do not be tempted to dump and items or to use a waste carrier that is not licensed.
- Store any additional items until normal services resume.
- Giving waste to illegal carriers is a breach of the household duty of care.
