We’re calling on the town’s businesses to donate trees for the Jubilee

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QCG) is a unique tree planting initiative, created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, where people across the United Kingdom are invited to 'Plant a tree for the Jubilee.

Following the death of Her Majesty The Queen, and the wishes of our Patron, His Majesty The King, The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) initiative has been extended to the end of March 2023 to give people the opportunity to plant trees in memoriam to honour Her Majesty.

In celebration of the QGC, we’re running two tree planting initiatives, which call upon the support of Luton’s diverse array of businesses.

Those who donate will be:
  • commemorating Her Majesty’s seventy year reign
  • enhancing the town’s biodiversity
  • contributing to our ambitions for a carbon neutral Luton by 2040
Businesses can get involved by donating £100 to the ‘tree for free’ scheme. This is a giveaway of 5,000 trees to Luton’s residents. It will allow people to apply for a tree to plant in their garden, free of charge.

A £100 business donation from you will ensure 10 households can plant a tree. Residents will be able to apply for a tree in the summer of 2022.

We’re also aiming to create new avenues and wooded areas across the town with various options:
  • a donation or £500 will create 500 square metres for future tree canopy
  • £1,000 for 1000 square metres
  • £8,000 will plant an avenue of 10 trees
Business will be acknowledged for their donation on our website.

Hazel Simmons MBE, leader of Luton Council said "The Queen’s Garden Canopy is quite literally a once in a lifetime opportunity to get involved in a nationwide celebration of our Queen’s seventy year reign.

"The tree planting offer to residents across Luton will be made possible through the generosity and collective endeavour of our town’s businesses.

"I encourage as many businesses as possible to donate towards a greener Luton. I look forward to seeing how our offer will enhance the town’s natural environment."
